How do we know if our children/tamariki are well enough to be at school?
January 29th 2026:
As per communications sent on 5/11/2025, the following changes to Police vetting will come into effect on 30/01/2026:
a) The minimum age to be Police vetted will increase to 14 years
b) A new requirement to obtain parent or guardian consent for any Police vets on 14-15 year olds
The latest version of the Request and Consent Form, released in Sept 2025, is now required to be used. Old versions of consent forms will no longer be accepted. The new form reflects these policy changes.
If you are an internal Police group please continue to use existing internal forms.
If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to reach out to us at QueryMe@police.govt.nz
Volunteers are not legally required to be police vetted, although the school may choose to do this as we determine necessary.
At our school, we police vet parent volunteers for camps and overnight activities.
Please complete and return to the school office, so we can include you in our school camps. Give yourself plenty of notice, as there are sometimes delays while the vetting is undertaken. We really appreciate your help and look forward to welcoming you on our next camp!
8.30 am classrooms open for children.
9:00 am school day begins.
School staff provide supervision of children between 8.30 am and 3.15 pm
3pm Departure
Our school bus collects the children outside our main door promptly at 3 pm.
If you are picking your children up by car, they should be collected by 3.15 pm.
Children waiting for parents to collect them must wait at the front of the school. Your children will be waiting for you at our main entrance.
Parents are required to notify the school, by telephone or message by 9.15am that their child is going to be absent from school.
Should a child fail to arrive and the school has no knowledge of the child's whereabouts, the parents will be contacted by phone to ensure the child's safety.
Our staff, who attend to minor injuries and ailments, have current First Aid certificates.
Should your child need medical attention or be too unwell to remain at school you will be contacted to collect them.
Parents are asked not to allow their children to come to school with money or valuables, as these things can be lost or go astray. If money is brought for school purposes, it must be in a named envelope and should be handed to a member of staff at the beginning of the day.
We do not require your child to wear uniform at Kinohaku School. Clothing should be tidy and appropriate, with a warm jacket or sweatshirt for colder days. Bringing a change of clothing is a good idea especially during the winter months. If your child wears gumboots, they are left tidily under the seat just inside our main entrance (hallway), and not worn indoors. Slippers for indoors are welcomed and encouraged.
Note : hats are mandatory during Terms 1 and 4. We supply and encourage the wearing of sunscreen; you are welcome to supply sunscreen of your choice for your child also. We are a Sun Safe school.
